Every 11 minutes, somewhere in the world, a song recorded at the legendary Sigma Sound is being played…
Sigma Sound is an award-winning, legendary brand that has been a leader in the Philadelphia music scene for over 40 years.
Founded by the legendary engineer, Joseph Tarsia in August 1968, Sigma Sound opened its doors for business and instantly started producing hit records, earning Philadelphia and Sigma Sound Studios its place in what would become unforgettable eras in music history.
By the early 70’s the US music charts were bursting with hits from the likes of Jerry Butler, The Intruders, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Billy Paul, Wilson Picket, The O’Jays, The Delfonics, Dusty Springfield and the list goes on.
The original driving force behind most of these records came from young producers and songwriters, Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. Although famous for “The Sound Of Philadelphia”, Sigma Sound is known as one of the greatest recording studios that shaped the music industry.
Since this golden era, Sigma Sound has amassed over 250 gold and platinum records, awarded in many music genres including R&B, Rock, Dance, Pop, Blues and Country, from some of the greatest entertainers in the world. Some of the most notable include David Bowie, The Jackson 5, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Lou Rawls, Billy Joel and Bonnie Raitt.
In addition, Philadelphia’s own Teddy Pendergrass, The Roots, Patti LaBelle, Boyz II Men and Jill Scott are among the hometown greats who have contributed to Sigma’s legacy with their incredible work.
